SBD Belt: 13 vs 10 mm – Which model to choose?
The weightlifting belt is essential equipment for all athletes, whether in bodybuilding, powerlifting, or strongman. It offers solid lumbar support, reduces the risk of injuries, and allows for lifting heavier weights safely.
The SBD belt is available in two models: 10mm and 13mm. Both are made of premium leather with a suede interior and feature a patented lever buckle.
| 10mm Belt | 13mm Belt | |
|---|---|---|
| Thickness | 2 leather layers + 1 suede layer | 3 leather layers + 1 suede layer |
| Flexibility | Offers more mobility and some spinal flexion | Limits spinal flexion, ensures maximum rigidity and stability |
| Comfort | More comfortable, quick adaptation | More rigid, longer adaptation period |
In summary: which model to choose?
Both SBD belts are suitable for heavy lifting. The choice primarily depends on your personal preferences and movement style: some exercises require more spinal flexion, where the flexibility and comfort of the 10mm will be an asset, while others demand maximum stability, where the rigidity of the 13mm will be more suitable.
Body type also plays a role: for smaller builds, the 10mm generally adapts better to the arch of the back and allows more freedom of movement, while larger builds often benefit more from the rigidity and enhanced support of the 13mm. This remains a general indication, not an absolute rule: your practice and personal preferences are the most important criteria.
